‘Magnificat’ – Liturgies and Events:With the support of the Bishops of England and Wales, booklets have been issued marking the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the UK this month. The booklets contain the Papal celebrations including special morning/evening prayers and Mass from 12th September. The booklets are on sale at a suggested donation of £2. Free copies are reserved for those attending the Papal Mass and will be distributed at a meeting on the 10th September. |
Life in the Spirit Seminars:The Life in the Spirit seminars are held at the Good Shepherd Church Woodthorpe, starting Mondays from 6th September - 18th October at 7.30pm. See the poster in church for further details. Booking is essential. Contact Marie Langford. |
Peace Vigil:To mark International Peace Day on Tuesday 21st September, we are holding a 12 hour Peace Vigil at Our Lady’s Church. Beginning with Mass at 9am, the church will be open until 9pm for anyone to visit and pray for peace. If you can commit yourself to a ½ hour slot or more, please add your name to the sheet in church. There will be prayers to mark the beginning of each hour. |
Mass Time Change – Sunday 19th September:Sunday morning Mass on 19th September will be at 9am.Please note there will be NO 10.15am Mass on the 19th September. This allows the opportunity, if we so wish, to watch the Beatification Mass on TV celebrated by the Pope in Birmingham. If you’d like to watch the Papal Mass on a large screen, you will be able to do so at Our Lady’s School immediately after the 9am Mass. Tea, coffee and bacon cobs and toast will be available. Please remember to bring your ‘Magnificat’ books along with you to follow the Mass. |
Intercultural Mass:To celebrate the rich diversity of our Parish Community, the readings, prayers and some songs at the 10.15am Mass on Sunday 12th September will be in different languages. The 12th September is also ‘Racial Justice Sunday’ and therefore an appropriate time to bring people together from their cultural backgrounds. If anyone would like to be involved, please have a word with Fr Paul. |
Papal Mass 19th September 2010:Details for those representing our parish at the papal Mass in Cofton Park, Birmingham have now been issued. The coach will be leaving The Becket School at 3.45am. There will be a meeting in the convent this Friday (10th September) after the scripture and prayer at 8pm for those who are going to the Papal Mass. Details, information and pilgrim packs will be given out at that meeting.Parish Banners:Special banners have been made for our church communities and will be carried to the Papal Mass by those who are attending. These beautiful banners which show our dedication as a parish to be ‘One in the Spirit’, have been designed and made by Jo Tucker, Sarah Fedyszyn and Jane Rooksby. They will be officially blessed at Mass next weekend.International Cuisine Evening:Our International Cuisine Evening will take place on Friday 17th September at The Infant of Prague Church beginning at 7.30pm. Tickets are now available at £5 with money raised going to The Pakistan Flood Relief. |

Scripture and Prayer Group: This will be held in the convent on Friday 10th September after evening Mass. All welcome. Parish Bingo: A bingo evening is held in the McGuinness Centre on alternate Fridays. Justice and Peace: The next event will be on Tuesday 21st September in the McGuinness Centre. Fair Trade Stall: The next stall will be held on 25th/26th September after the Masses at Our Lady’s in the McGuinness Centre. Church Cleaning: This month (September) – ‘Team C’ are cleaning the church. Please see the list in church for who is in ‘Team C’. |
2010 Nottingham Half Marathon:A friend of Fr Paul, Chris Woodward, will be running the Nottingham Half Marathon on Sunday 12th September for Nottinghamshire Hospice. This Hospice provides free professional daycare and homecare for patients within the Nottingham area that they may live their lives as fully as possible and be able to die with peace and dignity. If you are able to sponsor Chris and help this charity, please put your name and amount on the sheet in church. Thanks!Saturday Rosary:A decade of the rosary will be prayed after the 4.30pm Mass next Saturday (11th September). The mystery contemplated will be The 3rd Luminous Mystery, ‘The proclamation of the Kingdom of God’ and it will be prayed for our school communities. Please stay behind if you can, and if you’re not able to, then why not pray this decade of the rosary for this intention some time during the week.Justice and Peace Group:Our parish J&P group is meeting on 21st September (International Peace Day) in The McGuinness Centre from 6 – 8.30pm. There will an exhibition and workshops on Peace and tea and coffee will be available. |
