Deanery Station Mass:

Details of our Deanery Station Masses and Reconciliation Service during Lent are on the notice board in the churches. The next Station Mass will be at St Hugh’s Bilborough on Thursday 11th March at 7.30pm, with Confessions from 7pm.

Saturday Rosary:

Next Saturday after the 4.30pm Mass there will be a decade of the rosary prayed – the 3rd Glorious mystery -‘The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles’. The intention is for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Please try to stay behind for 5 minutes if you can to join us in prayer. If you can’t stay, then find 5 minutes during the week to pray this decade of the rosary.

St Patrick’s Day Celebrations:

Fr Michael Brown, our Cathedral Dean, invites us to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a special Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Launder Street in The Meadows on Wednesday 17th March at 10am. If you’re interested, put the time in your diary. Everyone is welcome.

CAFOD:

Have you noticed the large bottle in church? It’s for you to put any old coins (pre decimal or foreign coins pre Euro) that are lying around at home. These will be collected and changed into cash. All money goes to CAFOD.

Job vacancies:

Head teachers are required for September 2010 at two of our Diocesan schools; St Patrick’s Catholic Primary and Nursery school, Mansfield (application pack available from school – see poster in church) and at St Norbert’s Catholic Primary in Spalding Lincolnshire.

Mother’s day:

Next weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day. Special prayers and thoughts for all our Mum’s next weekend. To celebrate we have a special Mother’s Day Mass at 10.15am on Sunday, at which the children from Our Lady’s school will be involved.

Come and Sing:

You are invited to come and sing with the Nottingham Diocesan Choir and members of the Cathedral choir on Saturday 20th March from 10.30am – 12.45pm in the Cathedral Hall, Nottingham. No charge and music used for this year’s Chrism Mass will be provided.

Seven Sorrow and Joys of St Joseph:

19th March is the solemn feast of St Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church. In preparation for his feast, we would like to invite you to pray and reflect on his seven sorrows and joys. Copies of this devotion can be obtained at the back of church or from Pietro Albano Email: pietroalbano@yahoo.com.

Kilomathon UK:

Kath Johnson is going to run the Kilomathon (a 16.3 mile race) in aid of the Church Hall development project on Sunday 14th March. Please take a form from church and gather your own sponsors for her. Good luck Kath! And thank you for your support for Kath and the church

Pilgrimages:

There is a fully inclusive 7 night pilgrimage to Medjugorje departing from Birmingham on 22nd May. For further information contact Kath Gambin (see newsletter).
Fr John McCay (St Paul’s Lenton) is organising a pilgrimage to Lourdes from 29th May – 5th June, £525 (single room supplement on request) which includes travelling by luxury coach, overnight stop in Orleans on outward and return journeys, full board and excursion to Batres. If you are interested please telephone Fr John. There are only a few seats left.

Hospital Volunteers:

If you would like to be involved in visiting those in hospital at the City hospital or the QMC, have a look at the poster in church. A full 2 day training course is available. For further information have a word with Fr Paul.

Regular Parish Events:

Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament: There is Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament after weekday Mass in the Convent chapel through till 6pm, Monday – Saturday.
Wednesday Lunch Club: After the 12.30pm Mass in the McGuiness Centre every Wednesday. This week – Workings of the Magistrates Court system.
Youth Group: Alternate Friday’s in The McGuiness Centre 7–9pm. The next Youth Group will be on Friday 12th March.
Parish Bingo: A bingo evening is held in the McGuiness Centre on alternate Friday’s. The next Bingo session is on 19th March at 7 pm.

Stations of the Cross:

During the season of Lent we will be having the Stations of the Cross at The Infant of Prague church on Monday’s (beginning 22nd February) at 6pm and at Our Lady’s church on Friday’s (beginning 26th February) at 6pm.

A Retreat for Holy Week:

A retreat entitled: ‘Entering the empty tomb’ will take place on Saturday 27th March from 10am – 3.30pm at The Diocesan Centre Mackworth, led by Fr Ken O’Riordan and Paula Bailey. Cost £10. See poster in church for info.

Baptism:

Congratulations to Ava Lily Sackfield who will be baptised at Our Lady’s Church on Sunday 7th March at 1.30pm, and Cam’ron and Mya Murden who will be baptised at Our Lady’s on Sunday 7th March at 3pm. We keep their parents in our prayers at this happy time. Well done!

Answer to last week's question:

questionTo say that the Church is ‘Apostolic’ means that it can trace itself back to the apostles. Jesus founded the Church on the apostles, who in turn appointed successors. The Church today professes the same doctrine and way of life taught by the first apostles.
