Reception for Maasai Cricket Warriors UK Tour 2018

Thank you to everyone who made the celebration of Mass with the Reception of the Maasai Cricket Warriors on their UK Tour 2018 such a special celebration.

Formed in 2007, the Maasai Cricket Warriors team are now using their fame and love for the cricket game as an inspiration to educate communities on social justice and give young people a sense of belonging, support and hope through community and school visits. To the warriors, throwing the ball is like throwing a spear and batting is like using a shield.

They bowl and bat in their traditional clothing – bloodred ‘shukas’ and bright, beaded necklaces and this is important to them as it symbolises the importance of maintaining the positive aspects of their culture. They have also played internationally including in the UK, Australia and South Africa. They have been instrumental in promoting gender equality, awareness of HIV & AIDs and conservation work including protection of the extinct White Rhino.

Thank you for your donation of £510. They really enjoyed the time they spent with us!
