Gospel Reading – John 14: 15-21

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to be with you forever, that Spirit of truth.

Whom the world can never receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him?

But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.

Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

The Gospel of the Lord

In our gospel today, Jesus says: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”. This is very clear that the reason why we follow the commandments of God, because we love him. The challenge for us is, in order to be true to the commandments of God we have to be true to ourselves. Because love and sin do not go together.

To love God, love must herald from within us. If sin prevails then there is no room for Love. To live by the commandments of God we have to be God people and that can only happen if we live by the law of Love!

• How do I wrestle with love and sin?

• How do I fan the flame of love over sin?
