Gospel thought for Thursday 15th April Easter Feria

Gospel – John 3: 31-36

John the Baptist said to his disciples the one who comes from above is above all; the one who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks about earthly things. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

He testifies to what he has seen and heard, yet no one accepts his testimony. Whoever has accepted his testimony has certified this, that God is true. He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.

The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God’s wrath.

Reflection:

This scripture passage is a duplicate of the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus earlier in this chapter of John’s gospel.

It implies that Nicodemus took the words of Jesus literally, because he was ‘earthy’ or worldly but Jesus, himself, who is from above (from the Father) testifies that what he says comes from the Father.

When Jesus says that whoever believes in the Son has life eternal, he means a faith, which delivers good works.

Therefore no one else can bring us to the kingdom or offer us what Christ  has offered to each of us through his blood on the cross

  • Lord, you alone can satisfy the longing of my heart. Confirm my personal faith and commitment to you. May the example of my life invite others to believe in you.
