Gospel thought for Thursday 28 October 2021 – Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles (Feast)

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 6: 12-16

Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

The Gospel of the Lord

Reflection:

We know that Jesus did not do the interview, check the qualification, demanding a quality of study and formation to His apostles. These were humble fishermen and handworkers. With them was a rebel, Simon “called the Zealot” and a traitor, Judas Iscariot! All these who received the mission from apostles until now are a fruit of the prayer.

However, with the power of the Spirit of God, the apostles serve as the root of our faith and we receive the Gospel from them.

With apostles Simon and Jude let us pray for our mission. Relying not on our own capacity, but in God’s mercy may we receive His light despite our unworthiness.
